Joan joins Premier Gordon Campbell to announce West Vancouver’s “Spirit Square” project. This new space will be a place to listen to music, play with your kids or just relax. August 2, 2007.
Joan Announces a $64,000 project in Alta Lake Park, which included the new Fairhurst Fishing Dock. This was completed by a partnership between the Ministry of Environment, the Resort Municipality of Whistler, the Whistler Angling Club, ActNow BC and the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC. June 13, 2007.

In September of this year, the provincial government provided 51,500 books to Kindergarten students throughout the province. This was the third year of the literacy promotion that saw each Kindergarten student in B.C. receive a copy of A Mountain Alphabet by Andrew Kiss and Margriet Ruurs. Joan read this book to four Kindergarten classes at Collingwood school. November 8, 2006.

On March 14, 2006, Joan, along with fellow North Shore MLAs Katherine Whittred and Dan Jarvis attended the North Vancouver Minor Hockey Association's Spirit of 2010 Hockey Tournament at the Canlan Ice Sports North Shore Arena.
On March 3, 2006 Joan announced the Pemberton Childcare Society will receive $500,000 from the BC Government towards the construction of their new Pemberton Children's Centre.
On February 12, 2006, Joan was invited to help celebrate the four-year Olympic countdown in Whistler.
