Governments Fund Pemberton Infrastructure

PEMBERTON – Canada, B.C. and Pemberton have approved a joint investment of $1,011,714 through the Building Canada Fund and Infrastructure Stimulus Fund to get shovels in the ground on 2 local projects.  These projects will benefit local residents by creating jobs, helping to boost the local the economy, and build longer-lasting local infrastructure.

"By investing in this water main project we are creating jobs today and laying the foundation for future growth and prosperity," says Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP, Chuck Strahl. "Investing in recreational facilities such as the skate and bike skills park encourage our youth to pursue a healthy and active lifestyle."

"These projects are important to the local community and I am sure residents are excited to see them moving ahead, especially the skateboard park component for youth,” says West Vancouver-Sea to Sky MLA Joan McIntyre. “Collaboration among all three levels of government has enabled the senior governments to direct funds where they are most desired or critical. These priority projects will be legacies for the community and jobs for residents and their families.”

"Thanks to our collaborative efforts, The Village of Pemberton is going to benefit now and long into the future," says Pemberton Mayor Jordan Sturdy. “It is investments like these that build our community and will continue to make it a great place to work, live and raise a family.”

The combined Federal, Provincial and Municipal funds for infrastructure projects are as follows:

  • $643,860 for a water main looping project that will enable the water system to meet population growth projections for system redundancy and fire flow requirements, and will serve 2,700 residents.
  • $367,854 for designing and constructing the skateboard portion of a new skate and bike skills park for the community’s youth.

The Government of Canada's 2009 Economic Action Plan includes a vast array of initiatives to help to stimulate the economy, create jobs, build consumer confidence, and assist Canadians when they need it most during this global economic recession.  New large-scale infrastructure programs are one important element of this plan.

The project is funded under the Province's three-year, $14-billion capital infrastructure program that will create up to 88,000 jobs and help build vital public infrastructure in every region of B.C.

Since February about 480 projects worth $3.4 billion have been announced. These will create an estimated 21,600 jobs in communities across British Columbia.
