| May 12, 2010 LIONS BAY – Developing a plan for a new community centre in Lions Bay will be made a lot easier thanks to $7500 from the Infrastructure Planning Grant Program. “There are a number of positive initiatives that communities would like take on, but lack the funds to discover if those ideas are feasible,” says West Vancouver-Sea to Sky MLA Joan McIntyre. “This grant program works to solve that problem.” Lions Bay will be using their grant to examine sites for a new community centre with proximity to other services and green infrastructure elements. The current centre is a multi-use facility in constant demand by the community and is both outdated and inefficient in energy use. The Infrastructure Planning Grant Program provides grants of up to $10,000 to help local governments plan, design and manage infrastructure. The grants support projects that improve infrastructure sustainability, such as long-term comprehensive plans and studies that assess the economic and environmental feasibility of proposed water, sewer, drainage and transportation infrastructure. In past years, these grants have often led to supporting applications for capital infrastructure projects that have been submitted to programs such as Towns for Tomorrow and the Building Canada Fund – Communities Component.
