| June 2, 2010 LILLOOET – Improvements to Duffy Lake Road (Highway 99) south of Lillooet begins this summer, providing safe and secure travel for residents and tourists. “Duffy Lake Road is a vital link for transporting commercial goods, as well as providing access for residents and for tourism,” says West Vancouver-Sea to Sky MLA Joan McIntyre. “By targeting infrastructure stimulus funds to this project, we can get to work quickly to improve this particular stretch of highway south of Lillooet.” Approximately eight kilometres of Duffy Lake Road will be repaved south of Lillooet, from the avalanche gate near Blowdown Creek to the Long Cayoosh Bridge. The contract awarded to Okanagan Aggregates of Armstrong, BC. is worth $1.76 million. The project is expected to begin this spring and finish by the end of September. Work will be done during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with single lane alternating traffic. There will be possible delays of up to 10 minutes and a maximum travel time through the project of 30 minutes. The federal contribution to this project comes from the $4 billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, which provides funding to provincial, territorial and municipal construction-ready infrastructure projects. Since March 2009, almost 400 projects have received a total federal investment of over $500 million under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund across British Columbia. Since October 2008, over $5.3 billion has been committed for accelerated capital projects across British Columbia, which are estimated to generate and protect more than 34,000 construction jobs over the life of the projects.
