Public Comments Requested For Sea-to-Sky Land Use

SQUAMISH - The public is invited to review and provide comments on the proposed objectives contained in the draft Sea-to-Sky Land Use Order until Oct. 17, 2010.

The draft objectives are part of the land use agreements with the Squamish, Lil'wat, and In-SHUCK-ch First Nations and will provide direction on how to manage the forest to address:

  • First Nations' cultural places - including spiritual and village sites.
  • First Nations' cultural management areas - the areas to be managed for historic and contemporary cultural purposes.
  • Floodplain management areas - the Crown land portions of the floodplains of the Upper Lillooet, Green, Soo, Elaho and Squamish Rivers.
  • Riparian areas - areas of land that have conservation valuesbecause of their proximity to water and their ability to support distinct plant and animal species.
  • The draft land use order is part of the larger Sea-to-Sky Land and Resource Management Plan that provides strategic direction for land management from the headwaters of the Lillooet River to its outflow into Harrison Lake, and from Lions Bay and Indian Arm to D'arcy, and that includes the communities of Pemberton, Squamish and Whistler.

Written comments can be sent to Jeff Juthans, Integrated Land Management Bureau, South Coast Service Centre, 200-10428 153 St., Surrey, B.C., V3R 1E1, fax: 604 586-4434, email: Jeff.Juthans@gov.bc.ca until Oct. 17,2010.
